Stance — Figure on a Plinth

Stance is a small figure of full, rounded proportions caught in a gesture of complete self-assurance and ease: hands set on the hips, arms bowed wide, torso upright, head lifted. The silhouette is deliberately simplified — no facial features, no anatomical detail — so the entire meaning of the piece rests in the pose itself. The surface keeps the visible marks of modelling: ridges, hollows and small lumps across which the dark, near-black patina settles unevenly, throwing lively highlights along the shoulders and arms. A plain tapered plinth closes the composition and raises the figure to the status of a classical monument, giving the whole a note of warm, good-humoured irony.

Every piece is handmade — modelled, cast and patinated entirely by hand, outside of serial production. The surface texture and the distribution of the patina emerge during hand-finishing, so they never repeat and every Stance is one of a kind. The sculpture works well on a bookshelf, a console, a desk or a mantelpiece, ideally against a pale background that brings out its dark silhouette. A soft dry cloth is all the care it needs.
