Wave — Vertical Sculpture

Wave is a slender, flat form rising vertically from a dark cubic plinth. One edge runs almost straight upward while the other undulates in soft rhythmic notches, suggesting the crest of a flame, the outline of a leaf or the profile of a wave held mid-motion. As a result the sculpture reads entirely differently from each side — from a full, emphatic silhouette to an almost invisible thin line. A round opening near the lower part of the body lets light through and introduces a note of void into the solid form, lightening the whole composition. Pale, warm wood with a smooth matte surface contrasts with the darker, strongly grained plinth, creating a clear division between the sculptural element and its base.

Every piece is handmade — cut, carved, sanded and oiled entirely by hand, outside of serial production. The drawing of the grain, the tone of the wood and the rhythm of the undulating edge never repeat, so each Wave is one of a kind. The sculpture works well on a console, a sideboard, a shelf or a windowsill, ideally in side light that brings out the curves and the shadow cast through the opening. A soft dry cloth is all the care it needs.
