Hollow — Mass on Two Legs

Hollow is a sculpture built on the tension between sharp geometry and a soft, carved-out recess. A cubic mass rests on two plain rectangular legs, so the piece reads at once as architecture and as a simplified, squat figure. One face has been cut with a deep circular hollow of smooth organic curvature — a single gesture that breaks the severity of the form and draws the eye inward. The contrast works in the texture too: the outer planes are rough, porous and naturally speckled, while the interior of the recess has been polished to a silken smoothness. The warm cream-and-sand tone of the stone makes it easy to pair with wood, linen and light interiors.

Every piece is handmade — carved, hollowed and sanded entirely by hand, outside of serial production. Stone is a natural material, so the distribution of the pores, the shade and the depth of the recess never repeat, which keeps each Hollow one of a kind. The sculpture works well on a console, a mantelpiece, a shelf or in an alcove, ideally in side light that brings out the shadow inside the hollow and the texture of the outer faces. A dry or slightly damp cloth is all the care it needs.
