City — Modular Composition

City is a set of stone volumes forming a miniature architectural skyline. Three rectangular blocks of different heights are arranged in a rhythmic row: the tallest is cut through by a large circular opening that lets light pass and reveals the space beyond; the flanking blocks open with an arched passage and a recessed stairwell. Between them, narrow flights of steps project forward, leading nowhere and introducing a third dimension into an otherwise frontal composition. The elements are not fixed to one another, so they can be shifted, turned and spread apart at will to build a different skyline each time. Pale grey stone with soft cloudy veining and a matte surface keeps the forms calm, while the sharp edges set up an emphatic play of shadow.

Every piece is handmade — cut, hollowed and sanded entirely by hand, outside of serial production. Stone is a natural material, so the drawing of the veins, the shade and small differences in proportion never repeat, which keeps each City one of a kind. The composition looks striking on a console, a desk, a mantelpiece or a long shelf, ideally in side light. A dry or slightly damp cloth is all the care it needs.
